Communication plays one of the most important roles in any type of relationship whether a professional association or a more intimate bond such as marriage. Many of these relationships don’t develop into their full potential because the communication link is missing or weak. If you’re looking to save your marriage or connect with your marriage partner on a deeper level, the following advice may give you a new perspective that can help your marriage grow into the relationship you’ve always wanted.

One study found that 25% of the female college students surveyed had at least one experience of forced intercourse, and that 93% of these episodes involved acquaintances. College administrators and campus police estimate that date rape or acquaintance rape happens to one-fifth of college women, and one-fourth of college women will experience either attempted or completed forced sex.

That's not to say this man did not experience failure. He had no magical Midas touch - his personal life, while appearing to be immensely satisfying for him, included the same trials and tragedies experienced by any other human being. Yet he seemed to regard failure as an educational asset, and adversity as an opportunity for progress.

In coaching my clients, I have found that if we explore other “investment” scenarios, we can look at marriage in a more productive light. Most of us have purchased and owned a new car. As in our relationships and marriages, buying and owning a car takes effort and responsibility.

We have all heard the expression: “the fruits of our labor”. Picture a tree growing on fertile ground. Notice the lush, green leaves and the ripe fruit. The fruits represent whatever you have achieved (or what you want to achieve). With careful pruning (weeding), water, sunshine and love or care, your tree will continue to produce. Now imagine if you could see the roots of your tree. The roots are the foundation. They cannot survive without the pruning, water, sun or love. They wither, turn to weeds and die without these.

This process can be compared to housecleaning. You can clean the house one week, but by the next week it needs cleaning again. It’s a constant cycle—the same is true in a marriage relationship. What you ignore doesn’t just go away; it stays right where it is, waiting for more dust or debris to collect on top of it.

In marriage, emotional bondage and sexual compatibility are important to make the relationship work. If any one of the partners feels a lack of sexual interest in their relationship, talking helps. Communication is the key to a successful marriage. Like the emotional balance, sexual activity bonds a relationship closer together. So, a lack of sexual desire in you or your partner needs immediate attention.

Become a good heart-tender

When we get married, we become the caretaker of someone else's heart. We can break it, ignore it, or take great care of it.
